Kläppen //Lindvallen // Högfjället // Tandådalen //Hundfjället // Stöten

It is quiet and absolutely still. Not a breath of wind. Not a sound. Just the first rays of the sun, the snow-covered mountains and the silence. There’s something magical about being out first on a morning like this. Twenty centimetres of sparkling fluffy powder are more enticing than the newly groomed corduroy from last night. Each minute feels like ten, but suddenly a familiar noise is heard and the lift starts to move. Soon we’re at the top of the mountain. First. The snow is pristine in front of us and together we head eagerly down the slope, our tracks drawing eights in the feathery powder snow and broad smiles on our faces all the way down. And up again.

Downhill skiing

Undulating slopes and steep black pistes. We have slopes for hesitant beginners and for experienced speed-freaks.

At our resorts, Kläppen, SkiStar Sälen – Lindvallen, Högfjället, Tandådalen, Hundfjället and Stöten, you can take the season’s first carving turns without needing to feel embarrassed or harassed. We are relaxed, friendly and down-to-earth, both on and off the trails and slopes. Glide gently down the children’s slopes or the gentle green pistes, and start by taking the button lift up if you’re here to learn. Test one of the children’s favourite areas – Trollskogen, the magic forest – or take your new snowboard to one of our parks and try a 360°. There are plenty of challenges: Väggen – the Wall – which is as steep as it sounds and has Sälenfjällen’s greatest vertical drop at 370 metres, or you can have a go at telemark skiing.

When your legs are tired and the children are hungry, there are plenty of cosy restaurants and picnic huts in which to refuel. You can enjoy everything from your own packed lunch and cocoa to goulash soup, waffles and à la carte.

We have the time and the space for fun in the snow. For all ages. Parks. Ski school. And après ski. All you need for a successful skiing holiday.

There really is something for everyone here… I love it!

Cross-country and touring skiing

Sälenfjällen is home to, and the start of, the world’s oldest, longest and biggest ski marathon – Vasaloppet. Every year, 80,000 people cover the 90 km between Sälen and Mora on cross-country skis. But you don’t need to be a long-distance skier to enjoy cross-country skiing in our trails. We have 250 kilometres of groomed trails, from short child-friendly ones in forests to longer excursions in the mountains.

Naturally, we also have a cross-country skiing school that will help you train away the wobbles and improve your speed and technique.
Nothing tastes as good as when you’re eating your picnic, sitting on a sleeping mat beside a mountain stream on a sunny spring day. Or you can take a break in the waffle hut after a few kilometres in the cross-country skiing trails, and enjoy waffles with cloudberry jam, cream and a cup of coffee.

Terrain parks

Do you fancy a challenge, or have you just learned to balance on your skis or snowboard? Whichever it is, it can be fun to leave the corduroy and off-piste for a while and try something new. Sälenfjällen has Sweden’s biggest terrain park area, named the best in Sweden for nine years in a row.

We have parks for all ages and all types of skiers. You can try out lots of rails, features and jumps, many of them new for the season. Professionals ensure the quality of our terrain parks, as we don’t believe that theoretical knowledge is enough when it comes to building the country’s best jumps – we need people who have been jumping for half their lives. These are the people who know exactly how the snow should be for the optimal jump, experience and challenge – and this is probably why people from all over Europe choose to visit us.

Our beginner and junior parks have slightly lower and more forgiving small jibs and colour-coded jumps and rails, using the normal green to black scale. You can rest assured that this makes it easy to know which level you should try first, based on your skill level.

If more advanced parks and big air arenas are what you’re after, there are plenty of jumps, rails, boxes and challenges for people with more experience. Our arenas promise good height and airtime and are excellent if you are a double-flipper or if you want to catch big air, high and often.

For kids

A mug of hot chocolate and the scent of a freshly peeled orange on a south-facing slope. A rosy-cheeked family in thermals on a sheepskin in front of a crackling fire. Singing children on the ski lift and glowing snow lanterns after a day’s creativity in a snow playland. Mmm, these picture-perfect images actually exist.

In Sälenfjällen there’s no need to nag to get the children into warm clothes, boots and helmets. Being a child here is easy. And it’s easy to be a parent, whether you want to be on the slopes, in the trails or somewhere in-between. Here, you can stay in cabins and hotels close to child-friendly slopes. There are plenty of travellators and button lifts and, of course, all children under the age of 8 ski for free when wearing a helmet. Ski school, ski nursery, snow playland and ski games provide both childcare and activities on and off the slopes.

Meeting Valle, Vargy or Trolle and Trolla and dancing at the children’s après ski is a must when you visit Sälenfjällen. Or why not go on a snowmobile safari or a treasure hunt?
